In 2008, there are 65 children and 35 families participating in the EducArte project. However numbers do fluctuate due to local dilemmas. Our children and families benefit from the following programmes, thanks to Guatemalan staff and volunteers, and international volunteers.

EDUCATION:
Currently, our school caters for nursery, pre-school, and some primary levels. 2008 is the first year that EducArte's school is recognised by the Ministry of Education of Guatemala as a Primary School. This year students are receiving formal classes up to second grade from Guatemalan teachers. It is hoped in 2009 to have a new building where we can facilitate the instruction of higher Primary grades. We also work with Conalfa (Government Adult Literacy Programme) in literacy programmes for parents and adolescents who have not had access to education to date.

HYGIENE:

Instruction of good personal-hygiene practise is of the utmost importance for EducArte. As part of the oral hygiene programme, tooth brushes for each child are kept in the school and supervised in their usage after the daily lunch programme. Instruction of personal hygiene is also part of the programme.

Improvement of houses:

When we have the opportunity, we tried to help our families giving them construction materials for their houses. Also we give importance to each family have the necessary beds for each member of the family, most of our families are living in deplorable conditions.
